This is Scooby.. A 2 year old Labrador who loves tennis balls! His intermittent limp turned into a swollen leg that was eventually diagnosed as oesteosarcoma after X-rays and 2 bone biopsies.. Idon’t really know what I’m doing (and my photo has gone in sideways?!) but hoping this will work…
So Scooby is 24 hours+ post amputation of his front right leg that he has been having problems with for a few months. It’s also Christmas Day. I must say I think I’ve spent more time on the floor today than any other Christmas Day in my life (and I have twins!)
He seems to be coping ok but has been making a few whimpering noises. Think that might be the tramadol (painkillers) or even phantom (nerve) pains from what I’ve read about it.
We took the bandages off today as advised by our vet. It’s quite scary to see the long line of stitches and did upset my girls earlier so think we will put a t-shirt on him tomorrow.
I know it’s still early days so I have to keep reminding myself of that. He is managing to go to the toilet unaided which is good and he’s even tried engaging us with a ball and one of his Christmas toys today.
He scared me earlier when he made a very loud, almost squealing noise when he got off the sofa. I tried to help him down and think might have inadvertently hurt him in the process. I felt awful!
Fingers crossed we have a better day tomorrow.
Hey guys, we are so hoppy you’re giving blogging about Scooby a try, it will help so many others when they go on their own Tripawd journey. If you’d like any help at all just holler OK? We also have a help page here:
http://tripawds.com/help/
I hope things are good today and he’s feeling better!
And a very Merry Christmas and Hoppy 2016 to you all!
Oh and yes, the panting and whimpering could be pain-related, or just a side effect of the Tramadol. Phantom pain is much more obvious, you’ll know if he has it, but hopefully he won’t. If you have any worries let your vet know OK? And you can always ask us in the Forums too.
I’ve been following you in the forums Mr. Scooby! Sounds like a pretty “normal ” recovery. We humans just want it to hurry up and be over with though!
And your picture is very, very handsome…even sidewahs 🙂 You’re way ahead of me with computer skills. I’ve been on the site over 2 1/2 years and still don’t know how to set up a blog! Or type!
Cheering you on sweet Scooby!
Hugs!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
Seems many of us spent Christmas on the floor with our fur babies. I know the feeling of being new, but yes, the whimpering is the medications, and appetite can be non existent also due to the same. My gal is one week post, but much better, but is very sore in the hip area. Hugs to you, you’re in the right place.
Melissa
Hang in there! We found the first two weeks after post op were the hardest, after that our guy bounced right back to his old self!
